Professional Lines Underwriter – Benelux market

We are seeking an Underwriter, Professional Lines Insurance with a focus on the BENELUX market to join our new European underwriting hub in Barcelona, Spain.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Underwriter, Professional Lines Insurance, will be contributing to the growth and development of a book of profitable and diversified Professional Lines insurance business.

• Contribution to growth and profitability (bottom line) of Sompo International’s portfolio by sourcing submissions, underwriting, pricing, marketing and managing Professional Lines Insurance business and territories with the goals of maximizing the expected profitability and risk-adjusted return on capital

• Develop relationships with brokers. Contribute to build a well-diversified and balanced book of business ranging from SME to Major accounts

• Analyse underwriting information and ensure appropriate terms and conditions are secured

• Perform contract negotiation and attend underwriting meetings

• Proactively promote the Sompo brand and increase its recognition

• Cross sell other Sompo International Specialty Lines products

• Assist the team in developing and launching local language product versions for assigned European markets

Desired Professional Experience
• A recognised qualification in law, economics and/or finance
• 2 3 years plus as a Professional lines assistant underwriter, junior underwriter, or Insurance broker in Professional Lines encompassing the following products:
o Management Liability (Commercial D&O, Commercial Crime, EPL, PTL/Fiduciary, POSI),
o Financial Institutions (FI D&O, FIPI, BBB),
o Professional Indemnity (Regulated and not regulated professions),
• Proficiency in IT
• Excellent networking skills and relationships with brokers and clients in Europe
• Experience with a start up company or the development of new business and/or new products within an established company is a plus
