Group Head of Accounting

Multinational Agro company with almost 5K employees around the world is looking for a Group Chief of Accounting based in Madrid.

Functions:

• Own and deliver monthly, quarterly, and annual consolidated financial statements
• Ensure compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards across all entities
• Lead the Group consolidation process (timelines, quality, systems)
• Review and challenge key accounting judgments, including Biological assets accounting under IAS 41, Impairment and going concern assessments under IAS 36, and other complex system-driven accounting topics

• Define and enforce Group accounting policies and guidelines
• Drive standardization of chart of accounts and reporting structures
• Act as the Group’s technical accounting reference point
• Lead the clean-up and alignment of accounting practices across entities

• Key contact towards external auditors
• Lead and coordinate global audit processes across all entities
• Ensure audit readiness, quality deliverables, and timely completion
• Support interactions with the Audit Committee (via CFO and Group Finance leadership)

• Direct responsibility for local accounting teams in other countries and HQ entities
• Functional oversight of local finance teams globally (without direct reporting line)
• Support resolution of accounting topics in all subsidiaries

• Oversight of tax reporting and compliance, managed locally with external advisors

• Strengthen the internal control framework across the Group on financial reporting
• Ensure robust accounting processes and segregation of duties
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives, including.

Requirements:

• 15+ years post qualification experience in a senior financial accounting and financial reporting roles.
• Strong background in Group Consolidation and IFRS reporting
• Experience in international, multi-entity environments
• Fluency in English a must; Spanish is an advantage
• Background in Big 4 or Tier 2 audit is a strong plus
• Strong financial, accounting, and managerial skills (with team members in different time zones)
• Strong ability to define, implement, and monitor internal controls
• Good communicator, planner, and organizer
• Experience in Transfer Pricing
• Experience in Aquaculture or Agriculture business and accounting is an advantage
• Experience with ERP and consolidation tools (e.g. SAP / BPC)
• Ability to work independently and possesses strong sense of responsibility and ownership.
• Bachelor or master’s level degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or Business Administration. Certification such as ACCA/CPA is an advantage
